Holy Spirit the Person

The Holy Spirit is a person. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the God Head. You are born of the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit was sent into the earth to carry out the new birth. The Holy Spirit dwells in you and it is impossible to live the Christian life apart from the power and the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a term used to describe a movement of the Spirit upon and/or within a believer after the person is saved. We need to know first, that all Christians receive the Spirit upon their conversion and that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is a “secondary” experience of the Spirit. To illustrate; if we drank water from a glass, then the water would be inside us. However, if we went to the beach and stepped into the ocean, then we would be in the water. We receive, as it were, a drink of the Holy Spirit when we are saved, but when we are baptized in the Spirit, it is as if that initial drink becomes an ocean that completely surrounds us. This is the difference between you having the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit having you. The baptism in the Holy Spirit is an empowering for service that takes place in the life of the Christian and we are immersed in the Spirit's life and power.

1) Holy Spirit upon conversion
John 20:21-22

2) The term “Baptize with the Holy Spirit”

3) Baptism and Kingdom purpose

4) Baptism and power
Acts 1:8, Acts 2:1-4 and Acts 4:31

5) Receiving and experiencing the baptism of the Holy Spirit
Luke 11:13, Acts 2:1-6, Acts 8:14-19, Acts 9:17-19, Acts 10:44-48 and Acts 19:1-6

Tongues-Spiritual Language

The Scriptures exhort us to be filled with the Spirit and to pray in the new tongues of our spirit language. Our spirit language enables us to live in the Spirit, walk in the Spirit, be led of the Spirit, have the fruit of the Spirit, manifest the gifts of the Spirit and go from glory to glory until we are transformed into His same image.

1) Spiritual language
Acts 2:4, 1 Corinthians 14:2 and Ephesians 6:18

2) Spiritual language is a gift of the Holy Spirit
1 Corinthians 12:10 and 31 and 1 Corinthians 14:4

3) Tongues enable us to have Spirit-to-Spirit communication with God
John 4:24, 1 Corinthians 15:45, Genesis 2:7 and John 3:3-5, 16

4) Praying in tongues builds and increases our faith
Romans 12:6, Jude 20, Mark 9:23 and Matthew 9:29

5) Praying in tongues activates the fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22-23, 2 Corinthians 3:18 and 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

6) Praying in tongues quiets the mind
1 Corinthians 14:2 and 14-16

7) Praying in tongues stirs up gifts
2 Timothy 1:6, John 7:37-39, Zechariah 4:1-6 and Jude 20

The Fruit of the Spirit

Fruitfulness is an important theme in the Bible. The picture of how a grapevine is maintained is at the heart of Christ’s teaching on spiritual living. A vine being fruitful and beautiful cannot exist without constant help from the gardener.

1) Bearing fruit
John 15:1-8

2) Fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22-23

3) Greatest fruit
1 Corinthians 13:13

4) God’s temple
1 Corinthians 3:16

Spiritual Gifts

The fruit of the Spirit puts God’s character and His power on display. As God’s representatives on earth, we need to develop and walk in both.

1) Spiritual gifts
Romans 12:6-8 and 1 Corinthians 12:4-11

2) Leadership gifts
Ephesians 4:11-12

3) Motives and motivation
1 Corinthians 13:1-2 and 1 Corinthians 14:1

4) You have power
