LORDSHIP and OBEDIENCE

Opening Scripture:

Deuteronomy 30:16
“ in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.”

John 14:15
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
Jesus Is Lord
To say that Jesus is Lord is to say that He is not only the Son of God, but that He is God in the flesh. Following Jesus as Lord is the attitude of complete surrender and obedience to Jesus Christ.

1) Peter and Jesus (Lord = Master, Owner/ Messiah = Anointed One)
Acts 2:36

2) Paul and Jesus
Philippians 2:6-11 and Colossians 2:6

3) Results of disobedience
Luke 6:46-49

4) The Kingdom of Heaven
Matthew 7:21-23

Deception

Deception is a very powerful force. The devil is the master deceiver. Many have prayed prayers, attended Bible study, or even joined a church – but their lives have not been truly changed by Jesus. God requires holy and righteous living. Holiness sets the standard and righteousness is the result of a relationship that fulfills that standard.

1) Walk the walk (Holiness and Righteousness)
1 John 1:5-6, 1 Peter 1:14-16, 2 Corinthians 7:1, 1 John 3:6-10, 1 Thessalonians 4:7,
Hebrews 12:14, Leviticus 20:26, Leviticus 19:2, 1 Thessalonians 5:23, 1 Peter 2:24,
1 Corinthians 6:9-11, Romans 12:1, Exodus 3:5, Ephesians 1:4, 1 Corinthians 15:34, and
Romans 14:17

2) Keep His commandments
1 John 2:3-6

3) God’s command
1 John 3:11, Matthew 22:34-40 and 1 John 4:21

4) Children of God or children of the devil
1 John 3:7-10

Narrow Road

We are saved by God’s grace and we must receive the gift of Jesus’ work on the cross. However, when true salvation occurs, the evidence of our transformed lives should be obvious.

1) Entering the kingdom of God
Matthew 7:13-14

2) Real follower
Matthew 7:16

3) Bad Fruit (Sinful lifestyle = Lawlessness)
Matthew 7:19

4) God’s commandments and Jesus
Exodus 20:1-17, Matthew 5:17-19 and Matthew 7:12

5) Love Jesus
John 14:15 and 23-24

6) Paul and true believers
Ephesians 5:3-5 and Galatians 5:19-21

7) Living in sin and still thinking you are a Christian
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 and 1 Corinthians 6:11

Community and Relationship

True fellowship and community is opening our lives to other believers. While God doesn’t want us to isolate ourselves from unbelievers, authentic fellowship is experienced in its fullest with other believers.

1) Bad company
1 Corinthians 5:11 and 1 Corinthians 15:33

2) Fellowship with unbelievers
2 Corinthians 6:14-16 and John 17:15-18

3) God’s command and promise
2 Corinthians 6:17-18

4) Live in forgiveness
Matthew 18:21-22

5) Live in love and unity
John 17:23, 1 John 3:14 and Philippians 2:3-4
